Lists with This Book. Thanks for telling us about the problem. I only annne it through a bit over half of the book before I gave up. Very disappointing, and frankly, I’m surprised her editors let her get away with it. Quite readable, but it is obvious throughout that the author wants to ‘rehabilitate’ Wallis Simpson, at least to the extent that people feel sympathy for her. Her portrayal of this self serving person gives the reader all the necessary facts seba make a judgement about the Duchess.

However,since actual evidence diaries, letters, etc is significantly lacking or not easily accessible, I suppose it is to be expected. This is especially sad when you consider sebbs British royalty has changed and modernised somewhat with divorces and divorcees being fully accepted nowadays.
I get tired of guesses about her sexuality or her possible skills picked up in some shoo thqt house in Shanghai, because they are speculation and nothing more. If you are interested in history, this is not your book.

I had a better understanding of what made her tick after reading this book. That’s definitely not the case in this current biography of Wallis Simpson by Anne Sebba. I really found nothing negative to complain about.
I think Sebba does justice to the Wallis character throughout most of the biography and she paints a picture of a wife who is ‘loyal to’ yet not ‘in love with’ her husband. It is interspersed with lots of historical detail and background, particularly from the Thirties ane to post-war Britain and Europe.
