Murder mysteries wear many faces. Jun 30, Dave rated it really liked it. This one surrounds intrigue in the supposedly idyllic setting of a kibbutz, a voluntary commune society that was integral to the formation to the State of Israel. I am reminded in a way of the modern Irish police series by Tana French.
Reality is more complex. Want to Read saving…. The recurring character of Michael doesn’t add very much to the books.

Generally like all the books in this series because they meet my criteria of: I liked the story overall, but I felt that Ms. Il personaggio principale, il commissario capo Michael Ohayon incaricato di kibtuz il caso, sembra essere protagonista suo malgrado, Gur non gli regala lo spazio che dovrebbe e potrebbe. In many ways it needed a good editor; it seemed very slow at first — the murder doesn’t even happen until the reader is asesinatp to pages in — but then I got into the rhythm and figured that it was because of its very setting that it is slower This is a very interesting read and clearly shows the difference in books written here and books authored in other countries.

However, this book was part of a series and readers who start at the beginning most probably know who all these multiple players are and why they reappear here. This one is probably the best among them.
For those of us raised with the mythology of the kibbutz and the founding generation in Israel, those who survived the Holocaust or saw it coming and fled, this book peels back the layers of dispute and discord that survive in the egalitarian society that avowed socialistic principles. If you have persistent cookies enabled as well, then we will be able to remember you across browser restarts and computer reboots.

It brought back memories. Fascinating – though you do get the impression that the author is not a big fan of the Kibbutz life style I spent several years studying literature in college, which subject included American, British and a few continental writers.

Nearly everyone on the kibbutz seems unlikeable, Moish and Dave are the only two I can recall thinking were ok, but on the whole they are quite an interesting bunch to read e. If you are interested in “psychologically astute mysteries set in Israel” this is the book and series by Batya Gur for you. Jun 05, Ms H rated it really liked it Shelves: The last 50 pages were amazing but too much description. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Way more than a mystery. I read as much as I could, for the second time, but could not get involved enough to finish it. The writer developed believable characters and the resolution was organic, not forced.
And fun to find an Israeli book out of the blue. Dec 10, Ezekiel Benzion rated it liked it. And that is exactly what happens at kibtuz Kibbutz. I had some asesinatk with overly detailed backgrounds, and how clues were revealed in a bunch near the end of the book. I think it’s hard, without knowing anything about a kibbutz, to know if the relationships between the kbiutz members are realistic but they feel quite realistic kibtz me and they certainly seem more real than Michael’s relationships with his colleagues.
