It’s probably my least favorite of the series so far. Lists with This Book. The town reject all of the sudden turned super star. I guess there are plenty of people in the world who are dying for attention of any kind, and if you treat them like a human being, they read far too much into that.
Calvin Norris is also shot and seriously wounded, and Sookie learns that other shifters and were-animals are being shot throughout Louisiana. A dead man killed by Charles Twining during the fire is found outside her house, covered in gasoline, with a Fellowship of the Sun card in his wallet, so he is blamed for the arson.
The books, I am finding, are much different.
Some crazy werewolf stuff is going down with the Shrevport pack that Sookie gets, unwillingly, dragged into. And in this book, you get sense of some of what distinguishes Harris from the writers of more mundane romance books: How is this unusual?

This one had the most plot lines of any of the books, which I’m not sure I liked as much, but it was still quite enjoyable! The werewolves have their own problems.

It would have been so easy for the author, Charlaine Harris, to add a serious subtext to this series with the emergence of Vampires into human society and their struggle to mainstream as a metaphor for racism and the battle for civil rights.
