This book was written in a time before cell phones were everywhere, it has the s attitude and culture that I miss and strives for bigger ideas of feminist equality, valuing racial diversity, lifelong learning, etc.
Elminster: The Making of a Mage by Ed Greenwood
The book is about pages long, but I think it was too long by about pages. This was an interesting, if somewhat disjointedly and hastily written, edited and thought out book. From a dark and dusty tomb, Elminster emerges, seeking the guidance of Mystra, and finds only silence. Elminster’s elminsteer, the vampiric Lord Manshoon, thinks he has destroyed Elminster at last.
He had a very tight deadline, and the publisher wanted the character to advance through a number of character classes fighter, thief, cleric, elminsrer mage so he could be the ultimate polymath.
The author thought that the demands were over the top, so he said, well, why not have him be a woman as well! End Story 4, sorta That I’ve been putting off for awhile now. So when I heard about these books, I was excited. Literally, the last few pages. He gives up his thrown to one of the more noble side characters, and goes on his way What made the experience of listening to The Temptation of Elminster the most enjoyable? The narrator did a poor job with voices and names, and was hard to understand at times.

There is this really long battle sequence again, this one is slightly better than the first one because it involves a bunch of magic including a threeway fight between a dragon, a mind flayer, and a beholder I recommend this to all who love fantasy. But El and his friend have seen enough to hold a grudge.
If you could play editor, what scene or scenes would you have cut from The Temptation of Elminster? In the end everyone but El dies She is much more skilled in magic now, and can kick soldier’s butts.

This particular novel was very bad and very boring. Narrator did a fine job. I found the characters well-enough developed, the main one naturally the most rounded out.
What made the experience of listening to The Temptation of Elminster the most enjoyable? This would not be the book to make a movie.
That said, the narrator was awful.
