But that is wrong, she hasn’t been born. In Part II the mother speaks of the daughter, in the third part, the daughter of the mother, in a way that is exactly beckettt. Threads collapsed expanded unthreaded. In the final section there is no one on stage. Quite literally in Footfallsthe past is in the present.
She performs the monologue at incredible pace, pushing the stream-of-consciousness style to mimic the speed of thought.

The Royal Court production emphasized this intensification by presenting first Play of and then That Time, both directed by Donald McWhinnie, before Footfalls, directed by Beckett.
