What barriers should there be between teachers and their students? Multiple characters tell the story of the same events in time from their own perspective. Confessions is like listening to a song over and over again.
This page was last edited on 9 Decemberat The narrative style in this book, the format and the layout of the chapters absolutely positively floored me; it wasn’t necessarily epistolary themed, it was somehow beyond that. Her pupils killed her daughter.
However, in a speech at the end of term, the teacher relates the story of what happened that day and of how two students in the class are guilty of her murder… This is a literary mystery. Minato is associating those involved by showing the different characters point of view and then linking them knae, but there are more than few threads that don’t fit together or kaanae little if anything to add, and those stick out taking attention away from this otherwise nimbly braided story. But do I recommend that you take it on? However, this is certainly not physically revolting or grisly confessiobs any way, although it does deal with the very dark side of human nature and what motivates people – whether it is to look for confessioons or to revenge the loss of the child you hold most dear.
Writing – 4 Stars. She decides to commit murder-suicide to free her son and herself from torment, but in the ensuing struggle, Naoki kills her. His first public invention, an electric anti-mugger wallet, earned him a science fair award, but it failed to make the headlines as the media was busy covering the “Lunacy Incident”. Her daughter was later found drowned in a school swimming pool.
The teacher knows who did it and decides to punish the students in her own way by giving one last lecture before retiring.
The first person accounts give the readers a look into each of the characters’ mindsets. Told from 5 different perspectives, it looks at the actual event and the aftermath. This is a book that shocks at every turn. However, as the story confesxions further developed by the various narrators, I found myself more and more intrigued. In this case, Confessions. Come on, you know which one; that one song which keeps making you fall in love again and again with something that already loves you.
However the truth is more complicated.
A gut-wrenching thrill-ride with clean, high-impact language. These include Shuya, a seemingly narcissistic boy with a kanaw for electronics and a masochistic mother fixation, and his more guilt-prone accomplice Naoki, a sort of Japanese Leopold and Loeb who, for reasons that become clear only slowly, murder the beloved 4-year-old daughter of their middle school teacher.

No trivia or quizzes yet. For what I loved the most about this book is that all the monsters in it were humans, but I quite assure you, in real life all humans are monsters. Many accept it as a truism that Japan is a country in which morality is situationally determined, and the stereotype does, of course, reflect one aspect of the culture.
