There’s local Galway color — with various characters who seem to be either members of the Pogues in particular Cathy B. I have read about four of his books in this series and enjoyed them all. From the blurbs of the future books it seems like they focus much more on the crime part. Bruen’s tale is a potent draft of desire and hopelessness, conviction and surrender, inadvertent heroism and unexpected grace. It’s dark, funny and kem – just for starters. Jack is ex Irish police Garda but also thf known alcoholic with nothing much else in his life.
