Las hijas de Egalia by Gerd Brantenberg. The main twilight-zoneism is that it is written in language that indicates clearly that this world is as matriarchal as ours is patriarchal.
The activists have serious grievances with their world but they’re also having fun realizing that they don’t have to stick to all the rules set out for them.
This is a satire and is interesting. Consciousness-raising, as in Marx although the “Egalian” version of Marx is Matraxis an important part of the development of the characters, as they go from innocent and complicit teenage boys to men who are aware of their own oppression.

For most of this book I kept thinking it was just “stating the obvious”, wishing it dgalia take it a step further. This book was probably truly cutting edge when it was first published late 70s and the basic premise is still intriguing but it is a bit heavy handed.

I found Brantenberg’s alternate reality to be both humorous and tragic at the same time. The author’s colorful language, creative terminology and relatable storyline made for a great read. Swedish feminist fiction – gender role reversals [s].
I couldn’t imagine a world in which men could be completely objectified and patronized by women. Interesting take on our male-based society. She worked from in the Women’s House in Oslo. She has an English hovedfag main subject, comparable to a Masterfrom the University of Oslo, where she also studied history and political science. It kind of does towards the end, but not as much as I would have liked. I read this when I was way too young to understand what the fuck was going on, so I was mostly just really confused.
It really made you think and I like the idea. This shit is tongue-in-cheek, to some extent. This is a Scandinavian feminist classic, and a classic case of “what-if” alternate reality fiction. Other reviews have called the book “dated” and while some outright gender discrimination that is pointed out here is no longer this common, the book isn’t nearly as dated as we could hope for.

Hikas she has been a writer full-time. It’s been awhile, but I remember really enjoying this depiction of a world where women are the dominant sex. Great concept, but I feel that it would have been better off as a short story.
