Cheats, work-arounds and old-school solutions are included as alternatives for techniques which might not be accessable to some users. And no matter what software you use, your success in creating realistic-looking illumination, shadows and textures depends on your professional lighting and rendering techniques.

Compositing with a linear workflow. If you’re thinkin If you know this title, you already know it’s the Digital Lighter’s Bible. I fear some of the issues will become a bit dated with time and future editions will have to provide a timeline for certain developments.
Islam Wazery rated it it was amazing Aug 29, Rfndering better yet, buy the second edition! Different kinds of rendering algorithms: I bought it used, and lightinv has great general ideas for setting scenes up in 3d software packages, it’s platform neutral and more high level.

Every page is wonderfully informative, and sports spectacularly full-color image examples to accomany the concepts a big help when discussing color!! I wish some more space would have been devoted to certain aspects like developments in rendering beyond Reyes and brute force raytracing.
New focus on strategies such as lighting key shots, referencing, and sharing light rigs that let multiple lighters efficiently collaborate to light feature films and other larger projects. I imagine future editions will expand on the lighting of grooms, more on subsurface scattering and the many troubles with color- the chapter on linear vs gamma corrected displays will be an eye-opener to many – Overall, a must for those starting on the path of computer lighting and its many challenges.
Besides technology-driven changes, many topics have been improved through re-writing and new exercises and examples,showing in-depth approaches to underwater scenes, creating different looks with bokeh, and detailed discussions of professional approaches to collaborating and sharing work on larger productions such as animated features.
A must read for anyone interested in 3D rendering. Creating a compelling scene through developing a consistent color scheme.
