Wondering if anyone has some wisdom to share, and if they can tell me if I’m even hooking this thing up properly to begin with. My camera had a hard time catching the writing so I’ve added labels so you can see what’s printed on it.
OK – I see the third line info now! That would work alright. Another, does your LCD has backlights? Sign In or Register to comment.
Voltage regulator not working as expected. Osgeld Faraday Member Posts: The LM gets hot after a few min which isn’t nice. Here’s lm294ct-5.0 snip from p.
If you look at the diagram on the first page you will see some asterisks next to the capacitors. Hello, All I have is a cap between the output and ground at 22uf.
If you l,2940ct-5.0 running very much current, and your Vin isn’t too high, a small clip-on heat sink can significantly reduce the regulator’s temperature. Friday, December 05, Does it have a backlight? Basic Stamp List Subject: Your use of Yahoo! It is essential that the output capacitor meet these requirements, or oscillations can result.
Lm2940tc-5.0 only things being powered in the circuit is the stamp and the LCD. Text in the Subject and Body of the message will be ignored.
LMct gets HOT quick. — Parallax Forums
You probably still need the capacitor. Larger values of output capacitance will give improved transient response. Thank you for all the input. I km2940ct-5.0 digging through my dad’s old junk box and found a 16V, uF electrolytic cap.
I’m pretty sure Cap value correlates to the noise frequency, so no, you can’t just “go over” the datashdet and still have the same effect. The actual values of the caps matter, too. Did you take steps to obtain caps with appropriate ESR? The wiring diagrams in the datasheet include capacitors, but I assume that these are for smoothing out ripple, and would have no effect on this massive increase in voltage I’m seeing. Now that I look at it again, it seems that the markings on the package don’t match up with the datasheet.
I picked up some 5V 1A voltage regulators at a shop in town.
LDO Voltage Regulator (5V 1A LM2940CT, drop 0.5V @0.5A)
Click for larger version I found a datasheet here: The power in Watts being dissipated within the regulator is the voltage drop across the regulator times the current passing through it. Also, remember the more voltage you have to drop and the more current you want datashet pull, the hotter the device will run.
The acceptable range of ESR plotted versus load current is shown in the graph below. Groups is subject to http: How’s that for redundancy?
LMCT Datasheet(PDF) – TI store
Furthermore, hidden in the ap note the ones that I have seen is an admonition to have a minimum current load. Further reading of the spec sheet yields Otherwise the output impedance is too high and it oscillates. The ESR of the output capacitor will cause loop instability if it is too high or too low. Datasheet says left pin is input, but it’s labelled Quick Links Categories Recent Discussions. Do you know about how much output current you have? It’s daasheet 3-pin TO package.
There is another possibility Thanks, John In basicstamps yahoogroups. I like to put a led on the output for the minimum load, and to show, solidly, that power IS really on.
