He is currently working on an urban environmental history of Minneapolis. During the American Revolution, the centrality of the island of Manhattan was the key to British counter-insurgency efforts. This led to the creation of a very vity map of Manhattan, the British Headquarters Map,so they could see the future they wanted.
It is the only map in existence that mannahtta most of Manhattan’s original topography though without a way to translate the scale used before the major excavations of the nineteenth century flattened it.
